Arrived to the Maasai, Lyzza Clan of 300 to 400. Here I am greated by the Chief and a few of his sons. He has 8 wives. He is a famous Medicine Man.

The tall one is my host, Saitoti, who will become chief when his father passes. Yep, he’s killed a lion but, it was with a spear and because the lion was killing his cattle.

Between this photo and drinking Ballentines with an elder much later, you will not believe what happens. You’ll have to hear that story (and see the footage if you can stomach it) in person someday.

A night in the boma then a morning watching the women milk the cows then we were on our way.

Soon to leave Tanzania behind. A quick shower and breakfast at the Rift Valley Lodge then the long trip to the airport. I seem to recall First Friday is on this weekend back home.

Leaving the animals behind…most of them anyway, it is time for Kilimanjaro.

A bit anxious I’d say. Just heard from a summit'r it was -22 up top this AM.

I had a great week with my new TZ friends. I’ll see Josh in 9 days. Hopefully, to celebrate and then prepare for my overnight with a Maasai family out in the broad savannah somewhere.

Not gonna be updates until I’m off the Mtn. so I’ll load what I can today.

Dinner: Eating cream of lentil soup and oh yes, 25 yards from me…in the pitch dark…is the very dangerous buffalo (more so than their USA cousins, these guys kill lions). - You can’t see or read the “pause” that just happened, as is MOVED in the night- I dont know if the soldier with the AK 47 makes me feel any more safe since, when I hear the buffalo, I dont see him around.

With the first week half over, we prepare for Ngorongoro Crater.

I had a Serengeti massage in the open air with only a small wooden barrier between us and the nature that’s surrounding. Getting my legs ready for the big Kili trek the starts in few days after standing on game drives for hours and getting beat around. Hard to relax though when you worry about tsetse flies and mosquitoes in the middle of the day.

I also got Joshua a massage, he said it was a first. Tommy, he’s a bit shy.

50+ lions and giraffes, 100’s of Elephants, warthogs, baboons and buffalo, 3 cheetahs, 2 leopards, 20+ hyenas and hippopotamususus, 1000’s of zebra, gazelles and various other small creatures, 1 jackel and other things that are wild.

I’m ready to bring family and friends here just for the game drives (upscale of course), you dont have to hike Kilimanjaro or go as rough as I do. More on that once I experience the Mountain.

Spent last night coming up with a “Poa Poa” (look it up) jingle with Joshua and Tommy for Pamoja (means TOGETHER) Safaris, while listening African rhythms.

Coffee in the middle of the Serengeti. That view behind me is the same 360 degrees… Wildlife abound.

Pretty much how the day went and the gopro has the real good footage, great stuff. I was double filming here. Some up close encounters today for sure.

I aint lie'n but he is. The Jeep next to us broke down…Right Here! This male had walked about 50 yards out in the grasses but the guys from 4 jeeps, including my guys, still got out to try to fix it. For the next 30 mins…I kept watch (from the Jeep).

Joshua. He’s Maasai. His “warrior” story still haunts him 25 years later. He and Tommy make a great team, and personal Tanzanian adventure experience one-of-a-kind. Pamoja Safaris (look them up and GO! Thanks Scott B.)

OF COURSE. Dinner at Lake Manyara lodge. Tomorrow (Wednesday) Serengeti game drives.

Tarangire is a true elephant reserve of amazement. Wildebeest, worthogs, zebras….and many more. CHECK. Wild.

Wait until you see the video of what this elephant did. My guide Joshua flew across the Jeep in cautious fear.

Maasai youth wearing the black garment and mask of manhood…just a few weeks after their circumcisions, done with a blade in front of elder men, with no pain meds. And, if they cry… shed just one tear, no woman will every marry such a male. Maasai warriors in training. They wear this as protection. Crossing the Equator at this moment, soon I find out just exactly why it is called The Dark Continent. Pitch black, very little light… landing. And then the real adventure begins… getting the Visa sorted and meeting my 1st guide. Besides an hour drive to Arushu chatting with Joshua as I tried to stop imagining a head on collision or taking out one of the hundreds of people walking the dark highway this Monday night…we turned toward where he said the lodge was going to be, some ¾ mile up a road (washout complete with stray dogs, more human targets stumbling along and a herd of about 25 horned cows cramping the rut road)…and there was a lodge. As we bumped off the “African Massage Road” through a set of iron gates that had to have the pad locked chain removed, I knew it was ON. Alone I felt. With no expectations, real adventure was ringing in. I bid my guide goodbye until the AM then was showed my room. I realized I have no bug spray or Tanz. Shillings yet. Guess that will wait while I sleep on it. Night.

Watched Sahara Desert, Nile River and other “Wow!"stuff as the plane flew over Africa while reallllllly noticing the irregular "smells” humans put off on a plane. Uh, did everyone not get the we’re in close proximity memo? Nice nonetheless. On one flight my seatmates literally fell out. Another flight I was stuck with a family of 11, I used headphones to drown out a game of Go Fish. And yet, from the monitor, Kili and Africa await.

People often ask me, “Hey Domino, how do you pack for these adventures? ”

Well, each epic is special in its own right but I always have my Tin Cup Chalice.

One more personal “shake down” of my gear to lighten the load a we bit further and, I’m ready! (You really don’t need a lot and I’ve too much). CHEERS

The last half of this month will be devoted to Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa with a sprinkle here and there of other Tanzanian adventures. Stay tuned!
